Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez asserted that Nicolás Maduro is “the only president of Venezuela” after US forces captured Maduro early Saturday.
In a defiant address broadcast from Caracas, Rodríguez said that Venezuelans “must not become slaves again.” “We will never be a colony again,” she said. She also condemned the “aggression” from the United States and declared that the “words of the president are the only ones we are guided by.”
“We demand the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, the only president of Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro,” Rodríguez said during a session of the National Defense Council broadcast by state television channel VTV.
Alongside other top officials, Rodríguez said that Venezuela’s territorial integrity was “savagely attacked” by the operation that the US carried out in Caracas and other parts of the country.
