Andor makes history at the 77th Emmy Awards with a first-ever win for Disney

The Star Wars spinoff series Andor, set in the years leading up to the events of Rogue One, had an unforgettable night at the 77th Emmy Awards. The series took home five awards, including Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design. The highlight, however, was the win for Best Writing for a Drama Series, for the episode "Welcome to the Rebellion," written by Dan Gilroy.

This victory marks the first time a Star Wars series has won a major Emmy category. Previously, titles like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi had garnered technical awards, but lacked recognition in areas like writing or directing.

The triumph also made Andor the first Disney+ original production to win a major Emmy. Before that, series like WandaVision and Loki had received awards, but only in creative categories.

In the specific case of the Emmy for Best Writing, it was Star Wars' first win in the awards' history, a milestone for the franchise. The winning episode, the ninth of the second season, was praised for its sharp dialogue, depicting ordinary characters facing political and moral dilemmas, reflecting the struggle against the Galactic Empire.
