On Tuesday night (19), the director of Internal Controls and Integrity of Caixa Econômica Federal, Sérgio Ricardo Faustino Batista, 54 years old, was found dead in the headquarters building in Brasília, Brazil.
Sérgio Ricardo Faustino Batista was found outside the building by security guards who were on duty. The incident was registered by the Civil Police of the Federal District.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that it was a suicide, Sérgio Faustino Batista is directly related to the most recent sexual harassment scandal at Caixa Econômica Federal. Employees of Caixa Econômica Federal accused the then president of the institution, Pedro Guimarães, of sexual harassment. Pedro Guimarães resigned after the allegations were published.
The Department of Internal Controls and Integrity, DECOI, is responsible for receiving and following up on complaints made by employees through Caixa Econômica Federal’s internal channels.
After the scandal, Caixa Econômica Federal admitted the existence of a harassment complaint filed in May through internal communication channels.
