MGM Resorts data breach victims can now claim payments.
Victims of the 2023 MGM Resorts database breach can now claim payments after a year of litigation and a $45 million settlement.
The hacking attack lasted nine days, during which guests were locked in their rooms, slot machines, ATMs and checking systems went down. The ransomware attack reportedly affected 30 properties and 37 million guests, although the number could be higher. The $45 million lawsuit was settled in January, with a final hearing scheduled for June 18.
MGM Resorts sent letters to confirmed victims last year; those individuals should expect to receive an email in the coming weeks with a personalized ID and PIN to file their claims. People who stayed at MGM properties prior to the breach and believe they were harmed are eligible to apply.
Customers who can prove that the data breach resulted in financial loss can claim up to $15 thousand. However, most claimants will receive between $20 and $75, depending on the type of personal data that was breached. Claims must be filed by June 3, 2025.
