In the early hours of Saturday (03), authorities released the number of people killed which reached 288 and the number of injured which exceeded 850 in the railway accident in the district of Odisha state, in eastern India.
The tragedy occurred when a train carrying passengers from Kolkata to Chennai collided head-on with a freight train and derailed. On social media, images of the overturned and completely destroyed wagons were shared.
The AFP news agency reported that this is the biggest railway accident recorded in India in the last 20 years.
