On July 7, gynecologist Ricardo Teles Martins was arrested in the José Bonifácio neighborhood in Fortaleza, accused of abusing women during consultations in the city of Hidrolândia, Ceará, Brazil.

Ricardo Teles Martins attended a private clinic and public health units in Hidrolândia. Among them, the UBS Cosma Maurício da Silva, in the district of Conceição, one of the places where he carried out the acts, according to the victims’ complaints.

The case came to light in May 2022, after the complaint by Carla Carvalho, who reported in a publication on her social media that the doctor harassed her, grabbed her and tried to take her private parts during an appointment at a health center. . After the 18-year-old girl went to the Santa Quitéria Municipal
Police Station and reported the case. With the repercussion of the case, dozens of victims also sought the police and registered the police report.

The Municipality of Hidrolândia, through the Municipal Health Department, removed Ricardo Teles Martins from the care provided at the health unit during investigations into the case.
