United States reinforces support for Israel and begins operation to rescue American hostages

This Tuesday (10), the President of the United States, Joe Biden, reinforced his support for Israel after the surprise attack by the radical Islamic group Hamas on Saturday (07) and also stated that there are American citizens being held hostage by Hamas, and that “recovery efforts” are already being made.

“We have our Forces in the eastern Mediterranean. We have already moved part of these Forces and are ready to move additional assets if necessary”, said Joe Biden in his speech.

A US aircraft carrier strike group has been deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean with the aim of dissuading other nations or groups from exploiting the situation, according to the US government. The president ended his speech with the phrase: “Let there be no doubt that the United States supports Israel.”

United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the sending of an aircraft carrier, a destroyer and ammunition to Israel to “protect the Israeli people.”

“I have ordered the movement of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group to the Eastern Mediterranean,” explained Lloyd Austin in a statement. The group also includes a Ticonderoga-class missile cruiser and Burke-class missile cruisers. Washington will also deploy additional squadrons of F-35, F-15, F-16 and A-10 military aircraft and provide the Israeli Armed Forces with “additional materials and resources, including ammunition.”
