Two Mesa High School administrators face charges for allegedly failing to follow mandatory reporting requirements after a violent incident on campus last February.

The Mesa Police Department confirmed on Monday that it has submitted misdemeanor charges against Principal Kirk Thomas and Athletic Director David Klecka.

The charges stem from a February 2025 incident where a student was violently attacked on campus and a gun was involved, according to a Mesa police report obtained by Arizona’s Family.

A district spokesperson said district-level staff conducted an internal investigation at the time and determined that protocols for reporting suspected crimes were not followed by Mesa High School staff.
