Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell claims it seems like a Liberal leadership challenge is “inevitable” amid a divided Opposition.
Mr Clennell has tipped that there’ll potentially be a leadership challenge “next week” rather than this week.
This comes as Shadow Defence Minister Angus Taylor has become the leading candidate to challenge Opposition Leader Sussan Ley if there is a Liberal Party leadership spill after Andrew Hastie revealed he wouldn’t contest.
“It’s all a real mess and a gift for Anthony Albanese. It does seem like a Liberal leadership challenge is inevitable, but I’m tipping next week, perhaps, not this week,” Mr Clennell said.
“Sussan Ley now has enemies, however, on too many fronts. In her own party, with the Nationals, and then Labor and Labor has almost taken a backseat as a political opponent to the Liberal leader, and that is unsustainable.”
