The Xixia Imperial Tombs in Yinchuan were officially inscribed on the World Heritage List in the summer of 2025. The site in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has long been seen by locals as little more than earth mounds, so what makes these mausoleums worthy of World Heritage status?
The Xixia Imperial Tombs are a necropolis of the Xixia Dynasty, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwest China, and formed from the 11th to 13th centuries.
