Amid push for AI regulation, House Democrats press conference calls out Mike Johnson over recess

Democratic Reps. Don Beyer, Lori Trahan, Ted Lieu and Sara Jacobs held a press conference on Sept. 16, 2026, to call for bipartisan artificial intelligence regulations. The push comes amid calls from industry leaders like Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to slow the pace of development of AI as greater risks present themselves.
Panic is rapidly setting in among many Americans about the dangers of advanced artificial intelligence, and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are feeling intensifying pressure to take action to regulate the companies in charge of the emerging technology.
