Law enforcement across Arizona has been warning about scam calls aimed at tricking people out of their money.
Friends and family can contact us with just a click of a button, but so can scammers, which has led to hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses each year in Sedona.
Many people escape to Sedona for nature or wellness. However, its residents can’t escape scammers. Tyler Maffitt, Sedona’s communication manager, said this is a growing problem.
“In 2025, 120 calls about were received regarding fraud or phone scams, and of those, about 67 turned into actual police reports because money was lost,” Maffitt said.
He said last year scammers stole over $400,000 from Sedona residents.
“So Sedona is a part of a huge attempt to scam people out of their hard-earned dollars,” he said.
