New body-camera video shows the moments leading up to the wrong man being shot and killed by Phoenix police last month.
The shooting happened on the night of Jan. 26 at a home near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. According to court documents, the suspect, Edgar Ledesma Garcia, arrived at a home believing that “someone wanted him dead.” However, residents in the house knew Garcia and said he had struggled with mental health problems.
Investigators say an argument broke out between Garcia and the father of the household, identified as Christian Diaz. Garcia reportedly grabbed a shotgun from his truck and fired multiple rounds at the front door, then went back to grab two more guns and fired another 20 rounds.
“There’s somebody shooting. They’re shooting at my neighbor’s house. Please hurry up, please hurry up,” a 911 caller said.
The caller then said the shooter was in a Ram pickup truck.
“He’s too far away. Please hurry up,” she said. “I can’t see anything, it’s dark and he’s shooting.”
