Changing the date of Australia Day would be a ‘sensible’ proposal: Melbourne Lord Mayor

Melbourne Lord Mayor Nick Reece described Australia Day as a source of “heartache” for Indigenous Australians and suggested that changing the date would be a “sensible” step.
“We also know that some people in our community, particularly our Indigenous brothers and sisters, who see that day that causes a lot of heartache,” Mr Reece told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“For some years, there’s been a proposal, I think it’s a sensible one, that we look at an alternative date to celebrate our national day in the greatest country in the world.”
