Chinese ships are widely expected to return in the coming months despite a recent flotilla finally leaving Australia’s vicinity.
Defence Minister Richard Marles claims his government will be maintaining its monitoring of all maritime and air traffic in Australia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has also hit back at Beijing over its latest military drill near Taiwan, where Chinese ships came closer to the island than ever before.
