Nationals Leader David Littleproud is preparing to return to Parliament next week without naming a Nationals-only frontbench, keeping the door open to a possible Coalition reunion.
Some MPs fear appointing a party-exclusive frontbench would entrench the Coalition split, while senior Liberals say the delay shows growing pressure on Mr Littleproud to reunite the parties.
Supporters of Liberal Leader Sussan Ley have reportedly contacted National MPs in a bid to encourage negotiations on a reconciliation.
Ms Ley is also delaying plans to announce her own shadow cabinet reshuffle until there is greater clarity around the Nationals’ future direction.
