United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Jan 13) urged Iranians to oust their government, saying help is on the way, as Iran’s clerical establishment pressed its crackdown against the biggest demonstrations in years. Trump is reportedly weighing military options and others like cyberattacks. His latest message comes a day after slapping a 25 per cent tariff on Iran’s trading partners. Nader Hashemi, associate professor of Middle East and Islamic politics at Georgetown University, tells CNA’s Asia First that he thinks the Iranian regime will stay resilient due to the unity of its ruling elites, loyalty of security forces, and lack of a credible opposition.
