Dame Marie Bashir, the first female Governor of New South Wales and first person of Lebanese heritage to hold the role, has died aged 95. She served as Governor for 14 years from 2001, after building a distinguished career in youth psychiatry and advocating for better mental health care. Following her departure from Government House in 2014, she remained active in charity and community work across health, education and regional New South Wales.
