The Trump administration has ended a temporary protection status (TPS) for thousands of Somalis in the US, including hundreds living in Minnesota.
According to Immigration & Customs Enforcement, the Somali migrants have until March 17 to leave the country.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem released a statement to Fox News, asserting that “temporary means temporary”.
“Country conditions in Somalia have improved to the point that it no longer meets the law’s requirement for Temporary Protected Status,” Noem said.
“Further, allowing Somali nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is contrary to our national interests. We are putting Americans first.”
