European nations, including Denmark, Germany, and France, are bolstering their military presence in Greenland, an autonomous territory under the Danish Kingdom, in response to the US threatening to take control of the Arctic island. Troops and military personnel have been arriving, with plans for joint drills and security assessments.
The move comes after US President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, citing national security interests and concerns over potential Chinese or Russian influence in the region. While Denmark denies intelligence reports of foreign military activity, the geopolitical tug-of-war has prompted a European show of support for Greenland’s security and self-determination.
