An investigation by ProPublica reveals that federal anti-corruption agents were building a bribery case examining Senator Susan Collins and a major defense donor. The inquiry focused on whether millions in taxpayer-funded naval contracts were traded for illegal campaign cash. Before investigators could proceed, the probe was abruptly halted after a Trump administration shake-up gutted the FBI unit leading the case.
Collins’s campaign has strongly denied the allegations, calling them completely false, while her political opponents demand answers as a tight Senate race hangs in the balance.
