Full Barack Obama speech at presidential center opening calls democracy ‘precious’

When President Barack Obama spoke, he never mentioned his successor by name, but he alluded to President Donald Trump repeatedly. Trump is the only living president who did not attend the opening.
During the remarks at the center, Obama bypassed mentioning Trump by name, but, at one point, the former president urged Americans to reject a government that looks for a "way to divvy up the spoils and punish enemies and keep those who are different in their place."
"Democracy can be frustrating, it can be slow, it can be inefficient, and yet more than anything, I hope this center will serve as an affirmation of just how special, how precious our democracy truly is, and remind us what we can achieve when we embrace our shared responsibilities as citizens."
