Hardeep Singh Puri Exclusive: Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Traitor’ Remark Reflects Deep-Rooted Hatred For Sikhs

0 February 4, 2026 11:58

On this India Today special broadcast, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri reacts strongly to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi labeling Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu a ‘traitor friend’. Puri stated, ‘I was deeply troubled as a Sikh, as a proud Sikh, that a member of my community is labelled a traitor,’ arguing that such language implies treason against the nation and is unacceptable in political discourse. He highlighted Bittu’s family sacrifices, noting his grandfather, former Punjab CM Beant Singh (referred to as Gyan Singh in transcript), was assassinated. Puri dismissed Congress’s claims of BJP manipulation, suggesting the remark reflects a ‘deep-rooted angst’ against the Sikh community. The Minister also addressed parliamentary disruptions, alleging that Congress MPs blocked entrances and disrupted proceedings. He advised the Congress party to introspect rather than ‘double down’ on the controversial terminology, emphasizing that political language must be couched in civility and dignity.
