Trump Attorney General Todd Blanche disputed Rep. Thomas Massie characterization of US involvement in Iran as a war after the represenative from Kentucky drafted articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Citing the War Powers Resolution of 1973, Massie argued ihat the 60- to 90-day legal deadline for the U.S. military to withdraw forces from Iran would’ve been May 1 – or June 1 at the latest. The Trump administration’s rationale for not getting legislative approval for the war has fluctuated as, officials have argued, the waxing and waning of hostilities has altered the timeline of their legal obligations.

But Blanche, speaking while hosting the White House press briefing, suggested the US is not in fact at war with Iran.

"Secretary Hegseth is doing a phenomenal job. The Secretary of War and doesn’t
just go off and do things. He follows the law," Blanche said. "You called it a war. I disagree with that characterization as does most of Congress. There’s been votes on whether it’s a war and what to do and why votes through Congress, which have determined there was that he’s not doing anything wrong and the president’s not doing anything wrong, should result in articles of impeachment, I guess you’ll have to talk to to Massie about that."
