Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Vice Chief of the Air Staff, has described the Rafale fighter jet as the "buzzword" for the Indian Air Force (IAF) as it looks to bolster its combat strength. Speaking on the sidelines of a briefing, Kapoor stated, ‘Indian Air Force is looking forward to inducting a lot more MRFA aircraft’ to address the urgent need for 114 multi-role fighter jets. While he noted that a ‘concrete decision on this has not yet been taken’ regarding the specific platform, he emphasized that for the IAF’s inventory, ‘the sooner the better’. The Vice Chief also lauded the Rafale’s performance in Operation Sindhu, referring to the aircraft as a "hero" among other assets. The report indicates that the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is expected to meet on February 12 to discuss the multi-billion dollar deal, which is estimated at approximately 3.25 lakh crore rupees and aimed at modernising India’s air defence capabilities.
