An Iranian official says around 2000 people, including security personnel have died after weeks of protests across the country. It is the first time authorities have acknowledged the high death toll, following an intense crackdown on demonstrations. Authorities have eased restrictions on social media for the first time in days. Overseas phone calls were allowed but not texting. Meanwhile US President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs on countries “doing business” with Iran – one of which is India.
