From April, bereaved partners will gain stronger paternity rights, with fathers and partners who lose their loved one before their child’s first birthday eligible for up to 52 weeks’ leave.
The Department for Business and Trade estimates around 390,000 people are out of work due to caring responsibilities but want a job, underlining the scale of the challenge.
Ministers will lay the changes in Parliament on Monday, following Royal Assent for the Employment Rights Act in December, the Government said.
