Las Vegas law enforcement authorities have officially identified the human remains discovered inside a rusted barrel along the receding shoreline of Lake Mead in 2022. According to official reports released on Thursday, genetic genealogy and advanced forensic analysis confirmed the deceased individual as Edward “Buddy” Lelburian Jackson, a man originally from Arkansas who was in his mid-to-late 50s at the time of his death.

Investigators determined that Jackson died from a gunshot wound in the early 1980s before his body was placed in a sealed drum and submerged in the reservoir. Despite the passage of more than four decades, law enforcement officials noted that Jackson had never been officially reported missing by his family, as he was known for traveling frequently across different states without maintaining regular contact.

The initial discovery in May 2022 generated widespread interest due to Lake Mead’s dropping water levels, which exposed long-hidden areas of the lake bed. Forensic teams examined personal items recovered with the remains, including a short-sleeve button-down shirt, light blue jeans, a Timex wristwatch, and tennis shoes, to build a timeline of the event.

While early public speculation linked the disposal method to historic organized crime activities in southern Nevada during the late 20th century, homicide detectives stated there is currently no direct evidence connecting the case to mob operations. However, authorities emphasized that all investigative leads remain open as they continue seeking information regarding Jackson’s associates and final whereabouts in the Las Vegas region.
