Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to stalking but New York prosecution says ‘murder is not a message’

In a press conference after Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges, Attorney Jamie McDonald announced that the plea allows the 28-year-old to avoid a federal trial and attempt to dismiss a separate murder case against him in connection with the fatal shooting of a health care executive.

In an Aug. 14 hearing, Mangione admitted to ambushing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel in December 2024.
