The Sydney-Melbourne flight has lost its status as one of the world’s most popular routes.
Despite its declining popularity, the domestic route remains highly profitable for Qantas and Virgin, with customers paying an average of $155 each seat.
In 2023, the route generated more revenue than any other on Earth.
