Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst dies aged 70 following cancer battle

Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst has passed away at the age of 70 following his three-year battle with cancer.
Mr Hirst, who was a co-founder of the band, was diagnosed with stage-three pancreatic cancer in April 2023.
He had been a member of Midnight Oil for 50 years since the band formed on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in 1972.
His bandmates posted on social media: “After fighting heroically for almost three years, Rob is now free of pain – ‘a glimmer of tiny light in the wilderness’. He died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.”
