Misinformation about trans community spreads online after Tumbler Ridge

In the wake of the shooting at Tumbler Ridge, hateful and unfounded rhetoric about the trans community is spreading online because of the identity of the shooter. The RCMP says the shooter was an 18 year-old trans woman. Police have not connected the motive to the shooter’s gender identity, bvut that hasn’t prevented speculation. The Victoria Pride Society says attempts to exploit the tragedy and encourage fear and hatred is causing further harm. Even those being subjected to this hate say the focus must be on the families who lost loved ones.
