‘Nationalism trumps Trump’: Analyst on Thailand-Cambodia conflict

Thailand announced a curfew in its southeastern Trat province on Sunday (Dec 14) as fighting with Cambodia spread to coastal areas of a disputed border region. This came two days after United States President Donald Trump said both sides agreed to renew a truce. The Thai military also said it is considering blocking fuel exports to Cambodia, while Phnom Penh has accused Bangkok of striking civilian infrastructure. Japhet Quitzon, associate fellow with the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, tells CNA’s Asia First that both countries "will not bow to any economic carrots or sticks" from the US due to the high nationalistic stakes.
