Former Liberal senator Hollie Hughes calls out the “inflexibility” of the childcare reforms which are under scrutiny, specifically the childcare subsidy.

The government announced every family has access to three days of childcare irrespective of parents’ earning capacity, which means it is no longer means-tested.

“So many of their policies we see particular Labor governments spew out … they push things towards [metropolitan areas],” Ms Hughes said.

“The policy settings are all for people in metropolitan areas.

“We need to invest in the time themselves and the family.

“We need to make sure that we are actually funding the families so they can make the decisions themselves.

“We need to make it fit for purpose for families to make the best decision, not just subsidise childcare centres.”
