Nick Reiner faced a legal shake-up in his high-profile murder case. During a Jan. 7 appearance in a Los Angeles courtroom, his attorney Alan Jackson announced that he had withdrawn from representing the 32-year-old, according to MS NOW. This left Nick in the hands of a public defender for the time being. Because of the change in counsel, Nick’s plea was not entered for the two charges of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders following the tragic deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. His arraignment was rescheduled for February 23. In a statement to MS Now, a spokesperson for Nick’s family said they had “the utmost trust in the legal process” and would not comment further on the proceedings. Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14. About six hours later, police arrested Nick near the University of Southern California and booked him on suspicion of their murders. On Dec. 16, prosecutors charged Nick with murder and added a special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon—a knife—during the crime.
