It’s all hands and plows on deck at Coconino County Public Works before a set of storms slams the High Country.

Department director Christopher Tressler said there are many challenges and solutions to keep Coconino County roads safe. From the use of cinders to help build traction on the roads to sending their plows and graters across over 1,000 miles of road throughout the county. So they have equipment and people spread across the county.

“We pull people from their regular duties and get them on the road as quick as we can to get roads safe and passable,” Tressler said.

Coconino County is also home to both I-17 and I-40. DPS spokesperson Bart Graves said these famous interstates are known to be extra dangerous during winter weather.
