O-Train East extension delayed again as bus fleet faces ‘crisis’

The opening of Ottawa’s O-Train East extension has been delayed yet again, with no firm launch date in sight. CTV’s Leah Larocque reports on the setbacks, which rail construction director Richard Holder attributes to outstanding issues with station platforms and testing requirements. Meanwhile, the bus network is in crisis, with Interim General Manager Troy Charter confirming that one-third of the fleet requires significant maintenance. To fill the gaps, the city has purchased used buses and even explored using school buses. ATU Local 279 President Noah Vineberg says the system’s collapse has been years in the making.
