Parliament Debate | Rahul Gandhi Clashes With Speaker Over Gen Naravane’s Memoir In Lok Sabha

In a heated session of the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi engaged in a sharp exchange with Speaker Om Birla while speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. Gandhi attempted to quote from the unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, specifically regarding Chinese tank movements on the Kailash Range. He stated, ‘This is 100% authentic, 100% authentic,’ while defending his right to respond to allegations against the Congress party’s patriotism. The Speaker and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh intervened, citing parliamentary rules that prohibit quoting from unauthenticated or unpublished documents. The treasury benches argued that the book in question had not been published and therefore could not be tabled or cited. The session saw multiple points of order raised under Rules 349 and 353, eventually leading the Speaker to call the next speaker after Gandhi insisted on discussing the Prime Minister’s character and the border situation through the disputed text.
