Ottawa is facing its coldest temperatures since 2023 as a polar vortex drives overnight lows down to minus 30 Celsius; more than 2,000 federal public servants have received notices that their jobs may be affected as the government moves to cut 28,000 positions over four years; and OC Transpo has pulled dozens of O-Train vehicles from service after discovering a "spalling" defect in the wheel bearings, leading to severe overcrowding on Line 1.
