Residents Return to Fire-Damaged Blocks at Wang Fuk Court to Retrieve Belongings

TAI PO – Months after one of the most devastating residential fires in recent history, residents of Wang Fuk Court have finally been granted limited access to their homes. Starting this week, families from the seven most severely impacted blocks began the somber process of returning to retrieve personal belongings and essential items.
The massive blaze, which occurred in November 2025, tragically claimed the lives of 168 people and left hundreds more displaced. Since the disaster, the site has been under strict cordons for forensic investigation and structural safety assessments.
While the buildings remain uninhabitable for long-term residence, authorities have coordinated “controlled entry windows” for survivors. Escorted by building safety officials, residents were seen carrying out charred heirlooms, documents, and clothing—marking a painful but necessary step toward closure.
Government engineers continue to evaluate whether the structural integrity of the blocks can be salvaged or if permanent demolition will be required. For many, returning to the site of the tragedy was an emotional ordeal, as the community continues to mourn the significant loss of life.
