Russia-Ukraine peace deal may be a ‘nonstarter’ after Paris meeting

ANU Strategic and Defence Studies Centre Dr Matthew Sussex discusses how Putin will respond to Ukraine receiving security support from European Nations.
“There was a very firm sense of European desire to give security guarantees to Ukraine,” Mr Sussex told Sky News Australia.
“Agreement that they would provide intelligent support, perhaps drones, perhaps also some logistic support in order to provide that sort of deterrence against future attack if, in fact, there is a peace deal.
“Putin gives as one of the reasons that he invaded Ukraine a concern about Nato troops being close to Russia’s border.
“It may, in fact, be a nonstarter for him.
“If that’s the case, then war just continues, I’m afraid.”
