The House of Representatives has passed the ‘Save America Act’ in a bid to greatly overhaul election integrity despite pushback by Democrats.
The act, introduced by Congressman Chip Roy and Senator Mike Lee, aims to prevent all non-citizens from voting in US federal elections.
The vote ended 218 to 213, with Representative Henry Cuellar the only Democrat to vote with Republicans on the bill.
The bill is an updated version of the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, also introduced by Chip Roy.
Democrats have blasted the bill, claiming it suppresses votes, while Republicans argue it’s necessary due to the influx of illegal immigrants during the Biden administration.
