South Korea’s former president Yoon Suk Yeol sentenced to five years in jail

South Korea’s constitutional court has sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to five years in jail over the charge of abuse of power.
It is the first of the verdicts in four trials against the country’s 13th President.
Mr Yoon was impeached after he imposed a short-lived martial law order in December of 2024.
The most serious charge Mr Yoon faces is that of impeachment, for which prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
