Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s opening statement was interrupted by a protester who called for the U.S. to stop supporting Israel over its conduct in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
"Stop supporting Israel! Stop supporting Israel!" the man shouted during the House Appropriations subcommittee hearing, accusing Israel of carrying out a genocide in Gaza.
The International Criminal Court is investigating whether Israel’s military campaign against Hamas in Gaza amounted to genocide. Israel has vehemently denied the accusation, which stems from a case brought by South Africa in 2023.
The protester was forced out of the room by U.S. Capitol Police officers, and Rubio continued his opening statement.
