Sylvia Lim says motion on Pritam does not serve Singaporeans, but is a party political exercise

Workers’ Party chair Sylvia Lim asked of the motion raised in parliament to consider the suitability of Pritam Singh as Leader of the Opposition: “Is this necessary, or is this a political exercise?”

“I believe this motion today does not serve Singaporeans, but is a party political exercise, and I can foresee that our parliament will slip further down the rule of law rankings on the factor of being able to effectively check government power. This is unhealthy and not in the national interest,” she said.

Leader of the House Indranee Rajah had raised the motion, following Mr Singh’s conviction in court for lying.
