In Buddhism, the Kalavinka is a sacred bird. It began appearing on Chinese rooftops during the Song and Jin dynasties. It is the only hanging beast of its kind at the Xixia Imperial Tombs. With its crown and clasped hands, it reflects the Xixia devotion to Buddhism and the influence of Central Plains architecture.
