Tragic hiking incident in Blue Mountains claims life of 16-year-old boy

The body of a 16-year-old hiker has been recovered from a creek in the New South Wales Blue Mountains after an extensive two-day search operation.
The tragic incident unfolded when the teenager and his 17-year-old camping companion set off for a camping trip at the Acacia Flats campground.
On January 28, the 17-year-old activated an emergency beacon, prompting a rescue operation.
While the companion was successfully airlifted to safety by a helicopter, the 16-year-old’s body was discovered in the Bluegum Forest area, approximately 15 kilometres from their initial camping location.
Authorities are currently preparing a report for the coroner to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
