President Donald Trump said on Thursday that US oil companies would begin drilling in Venezuela “very soon".
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Thursday, Trump said the move would generate revenue for both countries and help push oil prices lower.
"We’ll be taking in a lot of money too. That’s going to do two things: it’s going to make the United States a lot of money and it’s also going to make Venezuela a lot of money, but it’s also going to bring down oil prices even further," he said.
He also said negotiations with major US oil companies were already underway, even as energy firms have voiced concerns about how quickly they can return to the country.
