Trump signs birthright citizenship executive orders despite Supreme Court loss

President Donald Trump again is targeting the Constitution’s guarantee of birthright citizenship despite a recent Supreme Court ruling upholding the principle, announcing a pair of executive orders limiting who qualifies for automatic citizenship and cracking down on so-called "birth tourism."

Trump signed an order declaring certain individuals are ineligible for birthright citizenship, including "alien enemies of the United States, members of foreign terrorist organizations and large categories of people who lobby an act on behalf of foreign governments," White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told reporters in the Oval Office.

The second order seeks to deny visas to individuals engaged in "birth tourism" and take other actions to curb the practice, Miller said.
