Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Monday urged that President Donald Trump’s talk of acquiring Greenland be taken at face value. “I believe the American President should be taken seriously when he says he wants Greenland,” she said.
But she drew a firm red line on NATO solidarity: “If the United States were to attack another NATO country militarily, everything stops.” Any such threat against an ally, she warned, would undercut the alliance itself.
Frederiksen stressed Denmark’s unwavering commitment to democracy and international law, insisting that borders are not to be redrawn “by force.”
Her remarks landed a day after a high‑profile U.S. operation in Venezuela, as President Trump on Sunday again floated a U.S. takeover of Greenland in the name of American security interests. For Europe’s allies, the signal was unmistakable: sovereignty isn’t up for barter—and NATO’s collective defence remains non‑negotiable.
